about

(hi, its ray here): this song is an old one, written by me maybe as early as 1999. I was in waterpistol at the time in western MA, although this song was one that only i would play for a long time. it took a long time to write the lyrics, and the two verses literally came together almost 4 years apart from each other. at first it was about angst, resentment, and fear. later it became just cynical. and even today it defines the truth of living, and daring to hope. sappy, i guess. maybe i should write a song about it. oh wait…anyway, the title "hopeless optimistic" has been the same for the songs entire life, and is one of my favorite two word self descriptions.

lyrics

isn't it funny how [it seems]
no one is really happy, unless they're sold to smile?
-but what do i know?
let God be your Employer.
take your dream and then destroy her..
before it gets harder than you thought it should be…

thats just the way it is.
for all that matters, life is forever.

and
for ever after
you will have
time enough to think for a change
don't let all that you expect go
if it seems smaller
you just got farther away
from in focus.

and isn't it strange now?
nothing can be pure the way it used to be
will never be more than just
beyond your reach
and thats a promise you can keep
theres no sense in loosing sleep chasing a dream

that's just the way it is.
for all that matters, life is forever.

and i can feel this wall
closing in on me
there's no hope at all
as far as i can see
no hope at all
as far as i can see, yeah.

this song has grown incredibly over a long period of time. yes it was nurtured by me, and yes it was basically on life support for maybe over a decade, but it is, or rather would be nothing without my friends (including my brother of course). its an honor that you believed in it as much as i have for so long, and hopefully for much longer. thank you, guys.
